SUMMARY
Interprets the drawings to layout the job so as to enable the workforce to complete the work.
Welds material in accordance with either blueprints or a specification sheet.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Layouts material as per the drawings.
- Assembles (tack welds) material in accordance with the drawings and advises supervisor so that the welders can then start their portion of the job.
- Marks the location and hole size of all holes to be drilled on the material.
- Operates overhead crane to place material in position.
- Grinds plates (surface clean).
- Operates submerged arc, stick and/or flux core welding machines.
- Gouges (prepares) material for welding.
- Selects proper welding wire.
- Confirms that weld complies with drawing.
- Operates overhead crane to place material in position to be welded.
- Completes daily job cards.
- Communicate with fitters welders from other shifts.
- Clean and maintain work area.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Able to read and interpret blueprints and understand welding symbols.
- Manual dexterity required for operating machinery.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials and product up to 50 pounds.
