The media and engineering community were out in full force on August 23, 2013 to witness Technicore’s historic breakthrough to Toronto Island. The Technicore crew utilized twin Technicore designed and built 75 inch TBMs to mine the arch and the main tunnel pilot holes. A Liebherr 934 specialty mining backhoe was utilized to break out the shale bedrock. No explosives were employed.
